Preet Kaur Gill occupies a significant place in modern British politics. Elected as MP for Birmingham, Edgbaston in 2017, succeeding the long serving Labour MP Gisela Stuart, she became the first female Sikh MP in the House of Commons, a milestone that carried both symbolic and political importance. Before entering Parliament, Gill trained and worked as a social worker, and from 2012 served as a Labour councillor on Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council for the St Paul's ward, being re elected in 2016. She sits as Labour and Co operative.
