BBC Licence Fee Non-Payment (Decriminalisation for Over-75s) Bill

[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to

This bill removes the criminal penalties for nonpayment of BBC television licence fees specifically for people aged 75 and over. Currently, failure to pay the licence fee can result in prosecution and criminal conviction, with potential fines up to £1,000. Under this bill, over75s who don't pay would no longer face criminal charges, though civil enforcement mechanisms might still apply. The measure aims to prevent elderly people from entering the criminal justice system due to licence fee debt.

Presented by Sir Christopher Chope.
