National Health Service Co-Funding and Co-Payment Bill
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill would introduce a system requiring NHS patients to contribute financially toward their healthcare costs through copayments (charges per visit or treatment) and cofunding arrangements (shared costs between the NHS and patients). Currently, NHS services are free at the point of use, funded through taxation. The bill would change this by making patients pay a portion of costs for certain services, with the stated aim of generating additional revenue for the NHS and potentially managing demand. Exemptions would likely apply to vulnerable groups such as children, pensioners, and those on low incomes.
Presented by Sir Christopher Chope.
