Anonymity of Suspects Bill

[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to

The Anonymity of Suspects Bill would protect the identities of people accused of crimes before they are charged or convicted, preventing their names and images from being published in media or online. Currently, UK law already provides anonymity for certain groups (like youth suspects and victims of sexual offences), but this bill would extend similar protections more broadly to adult suspects in the early stages of criminal investigations. The bill aims to balance the public's right to information with the right of accused individuals to privacy and protection from reputational harm if they are later found not guilty or not charged.

Presented by Sir Christopher Chope.
