House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) (Abolition of By-Elections) Bill [HL]
[As Introduced]

BILL
to
This bill stops the House of Lords from holding byelections to fill vacant seats left by hereditary peers. Currently, when a hereditary peer dies or retires, a special election is held to choose their replacement from other hereditary peers. This bill would end that practice, allowing seats to remain empty instead.
Presented by Lord Grocott.
