House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) (Abolition of By-Elections) Bill [HL]
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill stops the House of Lords from holding special elections (byelections) to replace hereditary peers who die or step down. Currently, when a hereditary peer leaves, other hereditary peers vote to elect a replacement, this bill would end that practice, meaning fewer hereditary peers over time.
Presented by Lord Grocott.
