House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) (Abolition of By-Elections) Bill [HL]

[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to

This bill would stop byelections in the House of Lords when hereditary peers (people who inherit their seat through their family) leave or die. Currently, when one hereditary peer leaves, another from the same family group is elected to replace them. This bill would end that practice, gradually reducing the number of hereditary peers in the Lords.

Presented by Lord Grocott.
