Controlled Drugs (Procedure for Specification) Bill
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill changes how the UK government adds new drugs to the list of controlled substances. Currently, the Home Secretary can add drugs through secondary legislation (a faster process requiring less parliamentary scrutiny). The bill would require Parliament to have a greater role in approving new controlled drugs, likely through a more formal legislative procedure. This aims to ensure elected MPs have greater input into which substances are banned, rather than decisions being made primarily by government ministers alone.
