[As Introduced]

BILL

The Social Media (Access to Accounts) Bill would require social media companies to provide law enforcement and other authorised bodies with access to user accounts and data during investigations. The bill aims to give police and security services tools to investigate crimes such as child exploitation, terrorism, and organised crime by requiring platforms to decrypt or provide access to encrypted messages and account information. It would establish a legal framework requiring companies to comply with access requests, with penalties for noncompliance. Essentially, it creates a backdoor into encrypted social media platforms for law enforcement purposes.
Presented by Max Wilkinson.
