English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act 2026
The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill transfers powers from central government to local areas and communities across England. It enables regions to have greater control over decisions affecting them, such as economic development, transport, and public services, through devolved authorities. The bill also strengthens community involvement in local decisionmaking by giving residents and organisations more say in how public money is spent and services are delivered. This represents a shift toward 'levelling up' by allowing different areas to develop policies suited to their specific needs rather than following onesizefitsall Westminster approaches.
