A secretariat is the entity that does the operational work of an All-Party Parliamentary Group: drafts agendas, briefs MPs, sends out invitations, books rooms, writes reports. When the secretariat is a lobby firm or PR firm, the APPG is a paid channel for the firm’s clients to access MPs. The MPs officer the group, the firm supplies the staff and the policy line, the firm’s clients (listed under Funders below) pay for the privilege.

The primary objective of the APPG is to raise awareness of the UN among MPs and Peers about: its contributions across the areas of peace and security, development and human rights; the scope of international law and its relevance to the UK; and the applicability of the UN to the British electorate.
