A secretariat is the entity that does the operational work of an All-Party Parliamentary Group: drafts agendas, briefs MPs, sends out invitations, books rooms, writes reports. When the secretariat is a lobby firm or PR firm, the APPG is a paid channel for the firm’s clients to access MPs. The MPs officer the group, the firm supplies the staff and the policy line, the firm’s clients (listed under Funders below) pay for the privilege.

To increase knowledge in Parliament on immigration detention in the UK and its impacts; to connect parliamentarians with relevant research, organisations and experts, including people with lived experience of detention; and to advocate for evidence-based policy reforms and the welfare of detained people.
