Gila Sacks started her role as Director General, Families Group at the Department for Education on 1 October 2025.

Before her appointment she was Director of Medicines at the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), and interim Director General, Primary Care and Prevention.

Earlier in her career Gila served as:

• Director of Public Health Reform at DHSC

• Director of Digital and Tech Policy at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

• Head of Apprenticeships and Head of Capital at the Department for Education

• Private Secretary and Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister
