Criminal Cases Review (Public Petition) Bill
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill would allow members of the public to petition Parliament to trigger a review of criminal cases through the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC). Currently, only the CCRC itself can decide which cases to investigate for potential miscarriages of justice. The bill creates a formal mechanism for citizens to submit evidence of potential wrongful convictions and require the CCRC to consider these petitions seriously. This could increase public scrutiny of the criminal justice system and potentially lead to more cases being reexamined for procedural errors or new evidence.
