Chalk Streams (UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site) Bill
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill seeks to designate UK chalk streams as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site and establish enhanced legal protections for these ecosystems. Chalk streams are rare, biodiverse freshwater habitats found primarily in southern England, fed by groundwater and supporting species found nowhere else in the world. The bill would create stronger regulations around water abstraction, pollution, and land use near these streams to prevent further degradation. It aims to give chalk streams the same international recognition and protection status as other globally significant natural sites.
Presented by Pippa Heylings.
