Universal Credit (Standard Allowance Entitlement of Care Leavers) Bill [HL]

[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to

This bill changes how Universal Credit (the main welfare benefit for workingage people) is calculated for care leavers, young people who have left the local authority care system. Currently, care leavers aged 1821 receive a reduced standard allowance (the basic monthly payment). The bill would entitle care leavers to receive the full standard allowance available to other adults, recognizing that they typically lack family financial support that other young people might have. This aims to reduce poverty and improve financial stability for one of the most vulnerable groups in the UK.

Presented by The Lord Bishop of Manchester.
