UK-EU Customs Union (Duty to Negotiate) Bill
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill would place a legal duty on the UK Government to negotiate and pursue membership in a customs union with the European Union. Rather than leaving the customs arrangements as they currently stand, the bill would require ministers to actively seek negotiations with the EU aimed at establishing closer trade ties through a formal customs union. The bill effectively mandates that the Government must attempt to rejoin or create a customs union framework with EU partners, rather than maintaining the current postBrexit separate customs status.
Presented by Dr Al Pinkerton.
