Stalking Protection Act 2019
Summary
This Act creates stronger legal powers to protect people from stalking and harassment. It allows courts to issue orders stopping stalkers from contacting or following their victims, and gives police better authority to investigate and prosecute stalking cases.
A vote to support means
- —Supporting this Act means backing new legal protections for people being stalked or harassed. It gives victims better tools to get help from courts and police, and makes it easier to stop stalkers through restraining orders and other measures.
A vote to oppose means
- —Some people worry the Act might be too broad and could catch innocent behaviour, or that it's hard to define exactly what counts as stalking. Others concern it could be misused by people making false accusations against someone.
