Republic of Somaliland (Recognition) Bill

[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to

This bill would require the UK Government to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland as an independent sovereign state. Somaliland is a territory in the Horn of Africa that declared independence from Somalia in 1991 and has functioned as a selfgoverning entity for over 30 years, though it lacks international recognition. The bill would commit the UK to diplomatic recognition, allowing the establishment of official relations, trade agreements, and representation. This is a significant geopolitical move, as no major world power currently recognizes Somaliland, and recognition could influence international diplomacy in the region.

Presented by Sir Gavin Williamson.
