Professional Qualifications Act 2022
Summary
This Act simplifies the process for foreign professionals to have their qualifications recognised and work in the UK. It removes some of the old bureaucratic barriers that made it difficult for overseas-trained doctors, engineers, plumbers and other skilled workers to practise their professions here.
A vote to support means
- —Supporting this Act means making it easier for skilled professionals from other countries to work in the UK after Brexit. It helps fill job shortages in areas like healthcare, engineering, and trades by recognising qualifications gained abroad, which benefits the public by ensuring we have enough qualified workers.
A vote to oppose means
- —Critics worry the Act might lower standards by accepting qualifications that aren't as rigorous as UK training. Others concern it could reduce job opportunities for British-trained professionals or lead to unfair competition from overseas workers willing to work for lower pay.
