Prevention of Social Housing Fraud Act 2013
Summary
This Act creates stronger powers to investigate and punish people who lie to get social housing or keep a social home they're no longer entitled to live in. It aims to make sure homes go to people who genuinely need them.
A vote to support means
- —Supporting this Act means helping to stop people from dishonestly claiming social housing (affordable homes run by councils or housing associations) when they're not entitled to it. This frees up homes for people who genuinely need them and saves taxpayer money that would otherwise be wasted on fraud.
A vote to oppose means
- —Critics worry the Act could make it harder for vulnerable people to access housing if they're wrongly accused of fraud. Some may also be concerned about privacy issues if the government has to investigate people's living situations more strictly.
