BILL
to
This bill establishes a regulatory framework for autonomous maritime vessels (ships that operate with minimal or no human crew) in UK waters. It sets safety standards, liability rules, and operational requirements that autonomous vessels must meet before deployment. The bill gives the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) authority to certify and monitor these vessels, and clarifies legal responsibility when accidents or incidents occur. It aims to enable technological innovation while protecting maritime safety, port security, and existing marine industries.
Presented by Rebecca Smith.
