Marine Protected Areas (Bottom Trawling) (England) Bill
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill would ban or restrict bottom trawling, a fishing method where heavy nets are dragged along the seabed, within Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in English waters. Bottom trawling disrupts seabed habitats, damages ecosystems, and can destroy marine life and fish breeding grounds. The bill aims to strengthen environmental protections in designated marine conservation zones by preventing this damaging fishing practice in these sensitive areas. It represents a targeted approach to protecting England's marine biodiversity without necessarily banning the practice in nonprotected waters.
