Local Government Reorganisation (Requirement for Referendum) Bill
[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill would require that any reorganisation of local government structures in the UK must be approved by a referendum of affected local residents before implementation. Currently, the government can reorganise councils, merge authorities, or change governance arrangements without consulting the public directly. The bill aims to give local communities a direct say in whether they want their councils restructured, ensuring major changes to local governance cannot happen without democratic approval from those affected.
Presented by Mr Peter Bedford.
