[As Introduced]
A
BILL
to
This bill establishes mandatory safety standards and regulatory requirements for lithiumion batteries used in consumer products, energy storage systems, and vehicles across the UK. It requires manufacturers to conduct safety testing, include safety labelling and documentation, and implement recall procedures for defective batteries. The bill also creates enforcement powers for regulators to inspect facilities, issue penalties for noncompliance, and sets standards for battery recycling and disposal to prevent fires and environmental contamination. The legislation aims to reduce incidents of battery fires, explosions, and toxic releases that have increased significantly with the growth in lithiumion battery use.
Presented by Lord Redesdale.
