Armed Conflict (Requirements) Bill

BILL
to
The Armed Conflict (Requirements) Bill establishes formal parliamentary requirements that must be met before the UK can engage in armed military action abroad. The bill seeks to place legal obligations on the government to seek parliamentary approval before committing armed forces to conflict, with limited exceptions for emergency selfdefence. This would codify into law what has been largely a political convention since the 2003 Iraq War vote. The legislation aims to strengthen parliamentary scrutiny and democratic accountability over decisions to deploy military force.
Presented by Dr Ellie Chowns.
